IBM: Cybersecurity Basics: Tools and Cyberattacks

It's a genuine beginner's course — accessible, no prior knowledge assumed — and part of a wider IBM series you can continue into. That also means it stops at the basics: if you already know them, or you want hands-on tool practice rather than concepts, you'll outgrow it quickly. Auditing is free; the certificate is an optional paid extra. Security fundamentals age slowly even as specific threats change (as of 2026).

This course opens IBM's Cybersecurity Analyst learning path: it covers the evolution of cybersecurity, the motivations behind different attacker types, malware and ransomware threats, security architecture and controls, and identity/physical access management, with hands-on labs and a final project, plus video segments where working cybersecurity practitioners discuss their own careers and perspectives.
