Just go in clear-eyed about two things: it's fundamentals, so if you want hands-on engineering skill rather than a conceptual grounding you'll want a lab-based course next; and the course and the exam are separate costs.

It's 45 minutes, 40–60 questions, and you need 700 out of 1000 to pass. It's one of the more approachable IT certs — conceptual, no hands-on labs — but people who skim the pricing and SLA details tend to trip up there.

No — Azure Fundamentals is permanent once earned, unlike Microsoft's role-based certs (like AZ-104) that need renewing each year. You earn it once and keep it.

It covers the ground well, but most people who pass comfortably add a set of practice questions before booking — those surface the exact phrasing and the pricing/SLA detail the exam leans on. Treat the course as the foundation, not the whole prep.

Be realistic: it proves you understand cloud fundamentals, which helps a CV or a career-switch conversation, but on its own it rarely lands a role. It helps open doors — most people follow it with hands-on practice and a role-based cert like AZ-104.

If you already know cloud basics and are aiming for an Azure admin role, going straight to AZ-104 is defensible — AZ-900 isn't a prerequisite. If cloud is genuinely new to you, AZ-900 first makes AZ-104 far less overwhelming.
