Building a JavaScript Development Environment
Is this course right for you?
Over about five hours it builds a robust toolchain from nothing — bundling, linting, testing, automation — so you understand every piece rather than inheriting a boilerplate you can't reason about. It's advanced and openly opinionated, which is the value for developers who want to own their tooling, and too much if you've only just learned JavaScript or you just want a ready-made setup.
One honest caveat: JavaScript tooling moves fast, so some specific tools it uses may have been superseded — but the principles of what makes a good toolchain, and why each piece is there, still hold. It's on a Pluralsight subscription (Standard about $29/month or $299/year, Premium about $45/month or $499/year, 10-day trial) (as of 2026).

About this course
Building a JavaScript Development Environment fills the gap between knowing JavaScript and shipping professional projects. Over about five hours, Cory House walks through building a robust toolchain from scratch — bundling, linting, transpiling, automated testing, and the workflow decisions that hold a real codebase together.
Instructor
Taught by Cory House, a React consultant, eleven-time Microsoft MVP, and one of Pluralsight's most respected JavaScript authors.
